Seeing the unseen: Western Pacific violence against women estimates and survivor leadership for transformative change in health
Violence against women remains one of the most pervasive and least visible threats to health and well-being. On Tuesday, 28 April 2026, from 12:00 to 13:30 (GMT+10), this in‑person side event will take place in Room 210 at the Women Deliver Conference 2026 in Melbourne, Australia.
The session will shine a light on new estimates of violence against women in the Western Pacific Region and explore how survivor leadership can drive transformative change in health systems and policies. Presentations will highlight the latest regional evidence and examine what these findings mean for prevention, response and accountability within the health sector.
Central to the discussion will be the role of survivor leadership. By placing lived experience at the heart of policy and programme design, the event will demonstrate how survivor‑informed approaches can strengthen gender‑responsive, rights‑based health responses and contribute to lasting change.
This event will bring together researchers, policymakers, health professionals, civil society organizations and advocates to reflect on how robust data and survivor leadership can work together to improve health outcomes for women and girls across the region. Participation is limited to conference attendees, and the event will be held in person only, with no virtual or livestream option.
